Featured Artist Randy
Patton
Although Randy Patton was born in Fort Worth in 1952, he proudly refers to El Paso, Texas
as his "hometown", having resided in his adopted city since the age of five. A
life-long familiarity with his subject matter plus an innate love for his surroundings,
bring a special warmth and definition to his colorful border images.
Patton , who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas - El
Paso, often displays the diversity of his artistic talents by producing works ranging in
style from realistic landscapes to stunning abstract productions. When not at the easel,
the artist frequently hikes the numerous trails which wind in and out through the rugged
Franklin Mountains, capturing inspiration for his larger works by creating quick,
plein-air sketches.
Looking for new ways in which to define El Paso, Patton recently began exploring an
exciting change of direction by creating colorful images which depict the beauty and charm
found in many of El Paso's most recognizable historic sites. Using vibrant colors and a
bold expressionistic style, the artist challenges local viewers to take a new look at
their familiar surroundings while inviting newcomers to become acquainted with these local
treasures.
Patton has returned to his original style of artistic expression, non-representational
art, because he
believes his ideas and emotions can be expressed more accurataely using this technique.
During his career, Patton has continued to garner juror's recognition and purchase
awards at numerous art exhibitions. His paintings can also be found in numerous private
and corporate collections throughout the region.
