Featured Artist - Rudy Montoya

The chiseled features of an American Indian...
The weathered countenance of an aging Mexican....
The exuberant joy of a young child...

All were subjects for the sensitive pen and ink drawings and vivid watercolors of Southwestern artist, Rudy Montoya.

Rudy had begun to develop his bold pen and ink style while living in San Francisco.   His subject matter was, however, inevitably the personalities of his beloved American Southwest.  He was irresistably drawn back to Texas and his hometown of El Paso.

Montoya's pen and inks, watercolors and prints create a visual poetry of life as it was along the dusty Butterfield Trail.  During his lifetime, He was a frequent solo exhibitor at private shows sponsored by large corporations, banks and businesses.  He also did extensive commission work.  In addition, his illustrations often graced the covers of numerous annual reports and brochures of local El Paso businesses.

Although his life ended prematurely more than a decade ago, Rudy Montoya's work still continues to be in demand, not only in the Border region of El Paso, but across the nation as well.
