32" x 26" - Oil on Board

Radiant in its cover of white blossoms, the Soap Tree Yucca is perhaps one of the most vital gifts of the desert to the Native American people.  Its fiberous "leaves" yield, not only a strong thread, but its sharp pointed ends serve as needles with which to sew.  After it blossoms, the fruits are edible, while its course roots can be ground into the soapy substance for which the plant is named.
